Leicester City returned to the top of the Championship with an impressive 4-1 away victory against Blackburn Rovers on Sunday. It was the first meeting between two former English Premier League champions in English football’s second tier.
The Foxes took an early lead through defender Wout Faes, but Blackburn equalised soon after when Sammie Szmodics capitalised on a defensive error. However, Jamie Vardy restored Leicester’s advantage with a powerful finish just before half-time.
Leicester’s passing game eventually wore down the home side. They sealed the win with two late goals – Kelechi Iheanacho converting a penalty before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall rounded off a great team move.
It was Leicester’s eighth win in nine league matches this season. In contrast, the defeat leaves Blackburn 18th in the table after losing four of their last five games.
The emphatic victory ensures Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side return to the top of the Championship standings. On Wednesday, Leicester play Preston at the King Power Stadium while Blackburn are away to Coventry.
