Celebrations rocked the ancient city of Kano State on Friday following the Supreme Court judgement that reversed the sack of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf was restored by the Supreme Court on Friday, as the valid winner of the governorship election held on March 18, 2023.

The five-member panel of justices of the Supreme Court led by Justice Inyang Okoro delivered the unanimous verdict in Abuja.

Justice Okoro ruled that, Kano State Election Petitions Tribunal and Court of Appeal wrongly deducted valid votes that were credited to Governor Yusuf by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. Also, held that the issue of sponsorship of a candidate in an election was within the domestic affairs of a political party.

The residents, both young and adult, male and female, took to the streets to jubilate in various ways.

Youths were captured with motorcycles, tricycles, and cars performing stunts, while some were seen dragging brooms on the streets.

The wild celebration was spontaneous, as some were gathered in the Miller Road residence of Sen. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and other strongholds of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP across the state.

Meanwhile, security personnel were seen in strategic locations, while commercial and other activities in the state have since bounced back.
