NLC Warns of Potential Indefinite Strike in Response to Any Further Increase in Petrol Price.

In response to a potential increase in the current pump price of 617 naira per liter, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is issuing a nationwide strike threat. Oil marketers have projected that the cost of Premium Motor Spirit, commonly known as petrol, could escalate to a range of 680 to 720 naira per liter in the coming weeks, contingent on the parallel market exchange rate fluctuating between 910 to 950 naira to the dollar.

These marketers have further communicated that the Central Bank of Nigeria's Importers and Exporters' official foreign exchange window has been facing liquidity challenges, preventing the provision of the necessary $25 million to $30 million required for fuel importation by dealers. Additionally, they have indicated that due to the scarcity of foreign exchange, their members planning to import petrol are being compelled to delay their endeavors.
