Currently, there is intense competition and lobbying among members of the House of Representatives for desirable committee positions, as it has been reported that the House plans to increase the number of standing committees. In the 10th House, the task of allocating committee chairmanships and memberships to lawmakers falls to the 'Selection Committee' led by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Deputy Chairman Benjamin Kalu.

During the previous 9th Assembly, the House of Representatives had 105 standing committees. However, due to the heightened competition and scramble for committee slots, there are discussions within the House leadership about the possibility of increasing the number of committees.

Both ruling party and opposition party members are adamant about being included in the selection process for committee chairmanships because they all contributed to the Speaker's emergence. Consequently, there is a developing conflict between new lawmakers, who are predominantly from opposition parties, and seasoned politicians primarily from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the allocation of coveted committee positions.
