The Group Chief Executive Officer, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited, Mr Mele Kyari, has disclosed that 75 per cent of the Nigerian population lacks access to clean cooking energy.
Speaking at the Faculty of Science, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife Osun State 2024 Faculty Lecture titled, “Energy Security, Sustainability, and Profitability in Nigeria: Challenges and Opportunity, at the university campus, Kyari also disclosed that 50 per cent of Nigerians also do not have access to electricity.
The NNPCL boss further stated that the challenge in the energy sector is a non-conducive environment for investment, especially the issues of security, vandalization, and fiscal policy.
He, however, said the present administration policy in the sector and economic policies are presenting opportunities for the oil and gas sector and others to ensure profit for Nigeria’s economy to thrive and develop.
