The Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress leaders have decided not to call off the planned nationwide protest and strike against the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government. This decision was made following a two-day meeting that ended in a deadlock. Additionally, oil workers under the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association have commenced an indefinite strike due to alleged mistreatment by the management of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, an agency of the Federal Government.

Despite another round of discussions at the Presidential Steering Committee on Palliatives held at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, the deadlock persists, and the organised labour remains firm in its stance to proceed with the protests and strikes. As a result, there are concerns that the ongoing strike and the planned protests could lead to a shutdown of the country and potentially paralyze the economy. Earlier on Tuesday, oil workers had already shut down the commission's office in Lagos and expressed their intention to shut down the agency's offices nationwide.
